Apple Cider Vinegar Helps Keep Your Skeletal System Strong

Updated on September 16, 2010

Having strong bones and teeth are important to your health especially as you age. Bones are known to get brittle as we age due to loss of calcium.

In addition to having strong bones it is important that your joints are healthy.  Arthritic or stiff joints can put a real damper on your lifestyle.

Staying healthy means staying active, and if your body hurts or is fragile this can be difficult to do.

Apple Cider Vinegar comes to the rescue once again to help keep your skeletal system strong and functioning efficiently.

Apple Cider Vinegar Tonic

  • 8 ounces water
  • 2 teaspoons Apple Cider Vinegar
  • small amount of honey is optional to improve taste

Note: If you drink the Apple Cider Vinegar tonic between meals or before going to bed make sure to rinse your mouth to avoid any prolonged vinegar contact with the enamel on your teeth. Acidic food or drink such as citrus, cola, and Apple Cider Vinegar can erode tooth enamel if it is allowed to stay in contact with the teeth for prolonged periods of time.

Arthritis

Dr. Jarvis, a famous Vermont practitioner and author of the book Folk Medicine: A Vermont Doctor's Guide to Good Health, wrote about how Apple Cider Vinegar can help people with arthritis. Due to all the conversations Dr. Jarvis had with his arthritic patients he believed that the problem began in the digestive system.

He believed that if the body was overly alkaline then this could result in the calcium deposits in the joints. Ingesting Apple Cider Vinegar provides the body with an acid to balance out the digestive system and to avoid a buildup of calcium in the joints.

Apple Cider Vinegar has a high potassium content, which dissolves calcium deposits around the joints. Potassium is also vital for cell and tissue regeneration. People suffering from arthritis have reported a that Apple Cider Vinegar provides pain relief as well as slowing down its progression.

Drink the Apple Cider Vinegar tonic three times a day to treat arthritis internally. Inclusion of honey in the tonic is customary for this treatment.

Apple Cider Vinegar may also be treated externally to the specific areas of the body with arthritis. Simply soak the affected area in a bath of comfortably hot water and Apple Cider Vinegar 2 or 3 times a day. A good ratio for the bath is 1 1/2 cups water to 1/4 cup of Apple Cider Vinegar.

For arthritis in the knee soak a washcloth in the solution noted above for external treatment. Wring out the cloth and wrap around the knee and secure by wrapping a dry cloth around it to hold in the heat. Once the washcloth cools off, repeat the previous steps several times.

Gout

Gout, also know as Metabolic Arthritis, is caused by having an excess of uric acid in the blood. Gout is one of the oldest and most common and oldest forms of arthritis. Gout can be extremely painful in the areas affected by the uric acid buildup.

Apple Cider Vinegar is a perfect remedy as it contains malic acid. Malic acid is important since it dissolves the uric acid and also helps push it out of the body. Apple Cider Vinegar also contains amino acids, which reduce the toxicity in the body due to their antibiotic and antiseptic properties.

Drink the Apple Cider Vinegar tonic three times daily to treat gout.

Stiff joints

Stiff joints may be caused by a potassium deficiency. Apple Cider Vinegar has a high potassium content and can help combat this problem. Drinking the Apple Cider Vinegar tonic three times daily will help relieve stiff joints. Additionally you can soak in a hot bath with a cup of Apple Cider Vinegar added to the water.

Osteoporosis

As we age our bones tend have a decrease in calcium retention. Calcium is what makes our bones strong. In addition to the calcium found in Apple Cider Vinegar it also contains manganese, magnesium, phosphorus, silicon. Each of these are important for the bones to retain their density.
